Here’s something I received from Scott Willis a few weeks back: a hard-rolled, vegetable tanned Horween horsehide wallet.
My brother loves this horsehide, and he has put in just over one month of good use on it – now it is his daily work wallet.
As you can see, his leather handling and care philosophy is very different from mine – the scuffs aren’t buffed out, and he doesn’t plan to do much maintenance, other than the initial coating of Scott’s home-made conditioner which I initially applied.
The rustic grain of the horsehide is beautiful 🙂
And unlike the vegetable re-tanned or chrome tanned horsehides, the very distinct pore/grain structure is clearly visible – the rectangles and triangles literally jump out at you under the sun!
Of course, a long way yet to go for this wallet and hopefully I shall have a few updates some months and years down the track as my brother puts it to work.
